I Am Hopelessly In Love With A Memory

R18,000

Layers upon layers….creating history, depth, hints of what lies below…like our own lives, we each have a story made up of our past, our dreams, hopes, and experiences. These layers of memories and experiences are what colour who we are. Sometimes the past is preferable to the present. We yearn for what once was.

“I Am Hopelessly in love With a Memory” is a small piece made up layers of charcoal and spray paint and other media. Handwritten words, written and partially wiped away or obscured by the new stories and layers on top. The foliage surrounding the woman intertwines with the words, a tangle of history and memories, a reflection of what once was.

I think we all have memories we can loose ourselves in. Memories that we return to when we need to. Maybe we colour these memories and edit them – erase the bits we don’t want. Are those memories even real? We become hopelessly in love with something we can no longer have and yet they remain a part of us and colour our present and future.
